The Samsung 990 PRO 2 TB NVMe SSD is an internal M.2 2280 drive that uses a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface and Samsung’s own controller. It reaches sequential speeds of up to 7,450 MB/s read and 6,900 MB/s write, with random performance of up to 1,400,000 read and 1,550,000 write IOPS. Samsung quotes 40% and 55% faster random read/write speeds than the 980 PRO.

It suits gaming PCs and creator workstations that have a free M.2 slot with PCIe 4.0 support, and Samsung lists PC and game console use. The 2 TB model is rated for 1,200 TB written (TBW) and a 1,500,000-hour MTBF, and averages 5.5 W in use. It supports 256-bit AES hardware encryption, TCG/Opal and S.M.A.R.T., and a 2 GB cache is listed. Samsung Magician software handles firmware updates and drive health monitoring.
